Spiny Flower – Pseudocreobotra Wahlbergii

Key Characteristics –
• Ideal for beginners.
• Small/medium mantis – Adult females up to 5cm, males around 3cm.
• The males are long and slender, females are larger and more rotund.
• Stunning colouration, both sexes are a vibrant green with unique patterns on the wings.
• Fascinating to observe. Very aggressive towards prey. Tolerant of correct handling. Always handle cautiously and never leave a child alone with a mantis. Adult males of this species are prone to flight, adult females are not.
• Under no circumstances should these be kept communally.
• These will thrive on green/bluebottle flies and moths after the 4th Instar. They do not require a feeding schedule as a thinner abdomen will indicate hunger and a satiated mantis will look plump. Mantis can comfortably hunt prey up to 50% their body length.
Environment for this species-
• Spiny Flower Mantises are best kept at around 25oC, allowing for a slight drop during the night.
• They require a humidity of around 40-60%. This can be achieved by spraying twice weekly with either spring water or tap water treated with our Hydropure solution. A thermometer/hygrometer is advisable for monitoring these levels.
• They will drink from the droplets of moisture in their enclosure, separate water is unnecessary.
• All mantis require an enclosure at least 3x as tall as they are long. This is to allow ample space for molting so please bear this in mind when adding décor to enclosures.
